Wayne Manning was graduated from Unity's School for Ministerial and Religious Studies and ordained a Unity minister in 1978. He accepted a staff position in the Education Department at Unity School and remained at Unity headquarters for the next twelve years. He helped plan and create the Unity School for Religious Studies (USRS), serving as Dean of Biblical Studies, Dean of Administration, and eventually vice-president for Education on the board of trustees for Unity School.
In 1985 Wayne became vice-president of Facilities for Unity School, overseeing the maintenance and physical operation of the 1600 acre complex and incorporated village, and served as a member of the supervision team in the construction of the new Silent Unity building. He was mayor of Unity Village from 1987 through 1990.
In November of 1990 Wayne and his wife Janet, also an ordained Unity minister, assumed leadership of Unity Church of Christianity in Columbus, Ohio, where they served through March of 1995. They served as associate ministers at Christ Unity Church in Sacramento, California from May, 1995 through August of 1999. They assumed the senior minister positions at Unity of Auburn, California, on September 1, 1999. Wayne and Janet are well known throughout Unity for their joint workshops and musical programs.
Wayne was awarded the "Lifetime Achievement Award in Broadcasting" at the 2001 annual Association of Unity Churches conference in Kansas City in 2001.
Wayne is also an avid golfer, amateur radio operator, commercial pilot with instrument and flight instructor ratings, a personal development coach, and web-master for several Internet enterprises. He is an active volunteer in the Auburn community, currently serving on the boards of the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and the Auburn Downtown Rotary Club, and the Board of Regents for Leadership Auburn. Wayne and Janet are the founders of Free and Unlimited Ministries and for many years sponsored the World Prayer Network online prayer ministry.
The Mannings retired from active Unity ministry on September 30, 2004. Wayne is expanding his personal coaching practice and is a faculty member and course leader at the Academy for Coaching Excellence in Sacramento, California. Wayne and Janet live in Auburn, in their wonderful house overlooking the American River canyon.
