November 2006 ~ Understanding

I have recently written a series of poems based on the teaching of the Twelve Powers and am sharing them in this column. Combined with a quote from Charles Fillmore’s writings, a scripture, and an affirmation, I hope you will find these “Power Pages” interesting and inspiring.

“Spiritual understanding is the quickening of the Spirit within. Spiritual understanding is the ability of the mind to apprehend and realize the laws of thought and the relation of ideas one to another.” Revealing Word, page 202

If I could have one wish granted,
one heart’s desire fulfilled,
one fondest dream realized,
what would I choose?

If I could reach into the very Mind of God
and take for myself one thought,
one power, one divine attribute,
what would I choose?

If I could ask for anything at all,
no limits set, no holds barred,
what would I want?

Surely it would not be any of those
little human wants like money, leisure, or fame.
Perhaps it would be one of those enormous spiritual wants
like cosmic consciousness or enlightenment!

I hope I would be like Solomon,
when he was faced with this very choice,
when God appeared to him in a dream and said,
“Ask what I shall give thee.”

I hope I would remember to ask for the true treasure,
the treasure that moth and rust cannot destroy.
I hope I would remember to seek the true riches
of an understanding heart ~
a heart that is pure,
a heart that sees only Good.

“For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” Proverbs 2:8

Affirmation: Through Christ in me, I understand what is true.
