September 2006 ~ Faith

My study of the Twelve Powers has led me to use them as a helpful framework for the relationship between principle and practice. Part of my recent practice has been to write a series of “power poems” which I am currently sharing in this column. Each poem is combined with a quote from Charles Fillmore’s writings, a scripture, and an affirmation, I hope you will find these “Power Pages” interesting and inspiring.

“Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with the power to shape substance. It is a magnetic power that draws unto us our heart’s desire from the invisible spiritual substance. Faith is a deep inner knowing that that which is sought is already ours for the taking.” Revealing Word, page 67

Take a tiny seed called mustard
and plant it where it can grow.
Then observe how, with clarity and confidence,
it becomes a mighty, herb-bearing bush
where birds may come for shelter.

Take a tiny seed called acorn
and drop it on the warm earth.
Then notice how, with patience and precision,
it grows into a majestic, shade-giving tree
where lovers may come for solitude.

Tiny seeds,
carrying a destiny that takes form,
without fear or hesitation.

Faith is such a seed;
the substance
of what is yet to be seen.
Already within us,
making only one promise:
as you believe, so shall it be.

“According to your faith let it be done to you.” Matthew 9:29

Affirmation: God is my help in every need. God does my every hunger feed. God walks beside me, guides my way, through every moment of the day.
(from The Prayer of Faith by Hannah More Kohaus)
